General Information

This trip brings you the highlights of the Central region in 3 days and 2 nights. First you will visit Hustai Nuuru National Park where you can spot the wild Takhi horses and other wild animals. During sunset you can experience the beautiful sand dunes, while riding a camel or walking... you will get to know a camel herding nomad family who will show you their way of life. The next day we will drive to Karakorum and in the history museum you will get to know the rich and fascinating history of the great khans of Mongolia. After that we will visit the remains of one of the most important Budhist monasteries in Mongolia and walk to some very interesting ancient relics in the area. Then you will visit a beatiful lake, where you have plenty of time to enjoy the beatiful surrounding and do some relaxing activitieS: kayaking, fishing, waterbiking on the lake... In the evening you can return to UB.

Day 1:

UB - Hustai NP - Elsen Tasarkhai

  • Drive to Hustai NP
  • Watch a documentary on the Takhi horses/li>
  • Drive into the park
  • Hiking, looking for the horses
  • lunch in the ger camp
  • Drive to the Bayan Gobi sand dunes
  • Ride a camel in the sunset


Elsen Tasarkhai - Karakorum

  • Drive to Karakhorum city
  • Visit the museum
  • Visit the Erdene Zuu monastery
  • Lunch
  • Go to the Turtle rocks
  • Drive to the National monument
  • Hike to the Ger Camp for dinner and stay overnight


Karakorum - Ogii lake - UB

  • Drive to the area of Ogii lake
  • Hiking

Day 1:

UB - Hustai NP - Elsen Tasarkhai

Morning: We will drive for about 100km to Hustai national park that has got the last remaining wild horses in the world. We will go into the National park to try to spot the horses and many other wild animals and interesting plants in the protected area We will have our lunch in the ger camp in Hustai NP.

After lunch we will visit the exhibtion area and watch an interesting documentary on the park. Then we continue driving to Elsen tasarkhai where we will spent the night in a Ger camp in Bayan Gobi The small sand dunes are one of the major attractions in the area, and we will explore the dunes and do some climbing on the sand dunes. Then we will visit a nomad family and explore their day to day live as nomads. With the setting sun we will do some camel riding. (Bactrian 2 humped camels)

Elsen Tasarkhai - Karakorum

Today we go to Karakorum, first we will visit the museum that shows the magnificence of this ancient capital city of the Mongol Empire. Next we go to Erdene Zuu, built From its ruins and once home to 1000 monks. It had some 100 temples within its 400 by 400 meters long walls, but the monastery was sacked during the purges of 1937. Today only the walls and 3 temples remain; but it is still a functioning monastery and one of the most fascinating Budhist sites of Mongolia. Usually we will be able to experience and see the prayers. We will also walk to some special rocks and stone monuments in the area. Lunch in a local restaurant in Kharakorum; Overnight and dinner in Ger camp in Karakorum. (B, L, D)

Karakorum - Ogii lake

We will leave Karakorum and drive to the wonderful area of the Ogii-lake. Here you can enjoy the views of the lake and before we head back to UB, you can still do some activity, like hiking around the lake or kayaking, fishing on the lake. Lunch in a local restaurant and in the afternoon transfer back to UB
